This could be a nude figure with patterns and other words, or perhaps it is a tired man with a continuous feeling that he doesn't belong. But he only has this continuous feeling because of that near pathological desire to be wanted. Needing to please. He thinks perhaps this is something to do with his childhood - while he excelled in some areas, he was socially awkward.
