104 :: Biometric checkpoint

Mariam disconnected her car.  The charging bay was the privilege of her senior position.  Other managers had flashier cars.  Some had pods.  She liked her manual.  It made her think she was in charge.  An illusion.  The car still recorded everywhere she drove.  They could still depower her car at any moment.  They.  It was only an algorithm watching her.  All she needed to do was keep her habits the same.  Do nothing rash and think logistics.  She did not need to do the right thing.  Just a lesser wrong than someone else.  Let the AI track other people.

Mariam slowed for security.  She would be stopped.  Her biometrics were erratic.  She could fool a person but not AI.

Evening Mariam. (Larry)

Hi Larry.  You alright. (Mariam)

Good. Good.  You almost made it through this time.  Just over the limit.  I have to ask. (Larry)

You know me.  Larry.  Taking work home again.  No one in the office to sign for it.  Can you sign it out for me. (Mariam)

Oh Mariam.  It is like this every weekend.  Sure.  I will sign. (Larry)

Mariam lifted a box.  Larry scanned it.  She held up her Skroll. He tapped it.

Working weekends are too normal for you. (Larry)

Her biometrics were moving again.  Larry could see the reading.  He should thing Mariam was up to something.  He should ask her more questions.  He should look in the box he signed for.  Or he could think he had embarrassed Mariam.

I know.  Embarrassing.  A little bit. (Mariam)

Soon the AI will only flag you when you are not taking work home. (Larry)

That will be a fine day. (Mariam)

Yeah.  See you Monday. (Larry)

See you. (Mariam)
