Adding to the altar
So the altar is the focus of the ritual that respects the past while keeping an eye on the present and the future. But here is the thing, if the present, and the past, obviously, have become dry and brittle and distasteful then the thing to do is to use our amazing capacity for learning to create new altarpieces, or to put new elements into the altar and thus change the ritual and change the future. The trick lies in that word learning, learning which pieces to add to the alter.
